"Le Voyageur de Saginaw" (aka Wally Ewing, with friends) will both entertain and educate families about French-Canadian Voyageurs and life during the Great Lakes fur trade. Children and parents alike will experience 'living history' through exciting hands on activities. Participants will examine artifacts and hear the stories they tell; learn to paddle, sing, and participate as a trade-canoe crew member; make trade bead crafts and musical wooden spoons; experience authentic songs, fiddle music, and dances of the 1700's; and taste what Voyageurs ate and drank. Relive and experience history through this rare interactive program.

As a child, in 1859, Anna Howard Shaw moved with her mother and siblings to Mecosta County. As the oldest child, Anna had to endure the struggles of a pioneer to keep her family alive even though she was only 12 years old. Her triumph over these hardships equipped her for a life where she was able to achieve a great deal in a world that was still very much controlled by men. Join us in celebrating the life of this great woman by enjoying a performance by local actresses, in period dress, as they help us all relive her life.
