Dr. Michael J. Deeb, a historical novelist, will discuss the implementation of both the Union and Confederate strategies during the Civil War. Specifically, highlighting both why and how these strategies changed during the 18 months of conflict. Initially, the Union strategy was to blockade the South and recapture control of the Mississippi River and its tributaries. The Confederate government's strategy was to protect its borders and its independence.
